I hold an economics and Ancient World History degree from UC Berkeley. I am pursuing a law degree from UC Hastings
I recently published an editorial over at The Guardian regarding the current economic collapse. It is my opinion that the failure of House Republicans to pass the economic stimulus package represents the beginning of the end of the Reagan Revolution. Allowing this crisis to continue without any viable alternative represents the end of an era for the Republican party. With uncertainty growing in a market built on expectations, our economic woes will worsen. Ironically, as this crisis expands and continues to collapse major corporations, Americans will demand greater government intervention. A party whose platform opposes nearly any proposal that uses government as the medicine for a financial disease will not be able to survive this crisis.
I hate farewell diaries. They are such attention-grabbing, pointless endeavors that beg to be responded to with a "don't let the door hit your" behind on the way out (to put it charitably). So, frankly, the fact that I'm leaving MyDD is by no means a monumental, historic, or even relevant moment in the life of this website. But what is true is that I've never felt this way about my fellow Progressives - and that's not a healthy thing for our movement. So if you choose to read this diary, then please do so for mere insight into the mind of an Obama supporter and perhaps how I relate to the larger Progressive struggle.
So everyone has heard by now that Rush Limbaugh is rooting for Hillary Clinton tomorrow, and encouraging Republicans to play mischief in the Democratic primary by voting for the candidate that will prolong this process and bloody Obama.
In an insult to every American, CNN has a new poll up on its front page asking readers, "Does Barack Obama show the proper patriotism for someone who wants to be president of the United States?"
George Bush could torture a thousand Iraqi children, invade thirty countries, and drown a sack of puppies, and they would never ask this question about him. But apparently, it's acceptable journalistic integrity to pose the question about a sitting United States Senator.
MyDD is unfriendly territory for Obama supporters. I sit and notice that every single reccomended diary is anti-Obama. And let me re-emphasize that last point - they are often more anti-Obama than they are pro-Hillary. Combined with the fact that the main entries on MyDD by Todd and Jerome are almost always unimpressed with Obama if not outright hostile, I have to wonder: why even bother reading?
After the Bush Presidency, who in America still believes that Republicans are the party of small government? There's absolutely no evidence that the government is any smaller, just more in debt. But how did this happen? How did the party everyone trusted to shrink the deficit and restrain the government trample all over civil liberties and become the policeman of the world?
